What the report says

The African Development Bank Group and the African Forum of Deposit Funds have agreed to deepen cooperation to mobilize more long-term financing for Africa’s sustainable development, according to an AllAfrica-published report dated 9 September 2026 from Abidjan. The partnership is framed as a way to support productive investment, strengthen economic resilience and encourage more inclusive growth across the continent.

The article says the two sides want to coordinate responses to a range of pressures, including geopolitical and economic uncertainty, climate-related disruptions, global shocks and social and economic divides. Their collaboration is intended to respect each institution’s mandate while directing joint efforts toward sectors considered high priority for development.

According to the report, planned areas of work include co-financing projects, joint operations, resource mobilization at scale, and the creation of investment vehicles and platforms that could support entrepreneurship and job creation. The partners also plan to expand knowledge sharing, institutional capacity development and financing solutions aimed at making African economies more resilient to external, financial and climate-related shocks.

The agreement is presented as part of broader efforts to build an inclusive and predictable African financial system under the New African Financial Architecture for Development. The AfDB is based in Abidjan and works across regional member states, while the African Forum of Deposit Funds brings together public financial institutions that manage long-term savings and other public resources for development.
