Adjumani Plans for 25,000 Mourners at Gen Moses Ali's Final Journey

Nile Post reported that Adjumani District is preparing for a large state funeral for Gen. (Rtd.) Moses Ali, with more than 25,000 mourners expected at Paridi Stadium in Adjumani Town Council. The district’s Central Organising Committee is being led by Adjumani LCV Chairperson John Anyanzo Ambayo, who said local leaders are working with the central government, security agencies, religious leaders and Ali’s family on arrangements for security, logistics and burial proceedings.

According to the report, the final programme was still awaiting official confirmation from government. Preliminary plans indicated that Ali’s body would lie in state at Parliament on Tuesday, where national leaders and legislators were expected to pay respects, before being flown to Adjumani. A vigil was anticipated in the district ahead of burial on Wednesday, though officials cautioned that the timetable could change.

Adjumani East MP James Mamawi was cited as urging residents to come together for the send-off, while preparations were also taking place at Taqwa Mosque Cemetery in Abiricaku Village. Nile Post reported that workers had begun preparing the grave, with Imam Yusuf Baraka saying the burial would be conducted in line with Islamic rites after the public ceremonies at Paridi Stadium.

Ali died on Saturday at Nakasero Hospital in Kampala, the outlet reported. He held senior roles over several decades, including Second Deputy Prime Minister and MP for Adjumani West County. His funeral is significant for Adjumani and the wider West Nile sub-region because of his long political and military career and the tributes being paid by national and local leaders.
