What the report says

IGN reports that Activision and Infinity Ward have set the beta schedule for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, outlining when players on PC, PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo platforms can try the upcoming shooter. According to the report, early access for players who pre-order on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S is scheduled for August 21–25, 2026.

The wider open beta is set for August 28–September 1, with Nintendo Switch 2 included in that phase. IGN says the beta rollout follows the Call of Duty Next presentation on August 21, which Activision has framed as a showcase for live gameplay, multiplayer content details, developer commentary and additional reveals before testing begins.

Specific beta maps, modes, weapons and Operators have not yet been fully detailed. However, IGN cites Activision and Infinity Ward as previewing launch-era content that includes up to 19 weapons, 3v3 skirmishes, tank-based larger battles, returning modes such as Search & Destroy, a new mode called Kill Block, a Training Mobility Course and loadout creation through a new Gunny system. Players who pre-order the Vault Edition are expected to access Operators including Price, Valeria, Ghost and Blix during the beta.

IGN also reports that Switch 2 pre-orders begin August 26, marking Call of Duty’s return to Nintendo hardware after a long absence. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is currently listed for release on October 23, 2026, for PC, Switch 2, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.
