Acon, Abola Bury Political Hatchet, Rally Otuke Leaders for Development

Otuke East County MP Julius Acon Bua and Otuke District LCV chairperson Francis Abola have publicly signaled a thaw in their long-running political rivalry, using a meeting in Otuke Town Council on Friday, August 7, 2026, to urge local leaders to work together for district development. According to Dokolo Post, the gathering at Townside Guest House brought together LCIII chairpersons, district councillors and NRM sub-county chairpersons from 14 sub-counties and town councils.

Acon said the meeting was meant to unite leaders across party lines and stressed that government projects were reaching the district through lobbying by the area MPs. He also warned against corruption, diversion of resources and neglect of intended beneficiaries. He told leaders to end divisionism and focus on service delivery, and said his borehole work in Alango Sub-county was being done with the knowledge of Otuke County MP Omara Paul as a sign of cooperation.

Abola, for his part, said elected leaders carry responsibility for development and urged councillors to stay active in their communities. He also highlighted anti-alcoholism efforts, saying 12 people had been arrested, and called for awareness in flood-prone areas so residents can move to safer ground. Other local leaders welcomed the apparent reconciliation, saying political conflict has slowed development and that dialogue is needed to resolve differences and improve services.
