Aceng Warns Schools Against Exam Cheating as UCE Candidates Begin National Exams

What the report says
Patricia Aceng Ogwang, a former Lira City Woman MP contestant and executive director of the Wanacel Foundation, has called on teachers, school proprietors and examination invigilators to protect the integrity of Uganda’s national exams by rejecting cheating and other forms of malpractice. According to Dokolo Post, her appeal came as Senior Four candidates began the Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) examination period.
Aceng said examinations should reflect learners’ true knowledge, ability and preparation, and urged schools to follow national guidelines closely. She cautioned that malpractice can start at the school level, and said candidates should be allowed to sit papers independently without unfair assistance. She also encouraged education leaders to ensure learners are properly prepared so they can compete fairly both within Uganda and beyond.
The report said she additionally reminded candidates and families that not achieving top grades is not the end of a student’s academic path, since other courses and career options remain open. Aceng wished both Senior Four and Senior Six candidates success and framed exam fairness as a shared responsibility among schools, parents, teachers and officials.
Dokolo Post said the 2026 UCE exams were scheduled from October 12 to November 3, with candidate briefing on October 8, and that Senior Six candidates were due to begin their Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education exams on November 9.
