AAYC general council meeting set for Benghazi, Libya, in October

What the report says
The Afro-Arab Youth Council (AAYC) has announced that its next General Council Meeting will take place in Benghazi, Libya, from 19 to 22 October 2026, according to Watchdog Uganda. The four-day gathering is expected to bring together Council members and representatives from member chapters and organisations across Africa and the Arab world.
Watchdog Uganda reported that the meeting will focus on reviewing the organisation’s progress, strengthening governance structures, setting strategic priorities and outlining the next phase of the Council’s work. The publication described the session as an internal governance event rather than a public forum, with leadership and delegates expected to assess institutional development and agree on future direction.
The choice of Benghazi also has symbolic value for AAYC. The outlet said Libya was among the governments that supported the Council’s establishment in 2004, alongside Sudan, under the leadership in place at the time. A return to Libya for a major Council meeting therefore appears to connect the organisation’s present agenda with its founding history.
Watchdog Uganda added that AAYC is continuing broader institutional efforts, including work on a permanent international headquarters in Uganda and expansion of partnerships across the region. In the run-up to the meeting, executive members and regional coordinators have been asked to help mobilise delegates and support logistical preparations.
