72 Immigration Officers Promoted as Ministry Calls for Greater Professionalism

Uganda’s Ministry of Internal Affairs has promoted 72 officers in the Directorate of Citizenship and Immigration Control and used the occasion to call for stronger professionalism, integrity and accountability in the service. The changes were presented during a formal pipping ceremony, which marked the officers’ new ranks and responsibilities.

Chief Government Chemist Kepher Kuchana, speaking for the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, presided over the event and said the promotions reflected the officers’ commitment and contribution to public service. He congratulated the officers and encouraged them to carry out their duties with dedication while keeping the public interest at the center of their work.

According to the ministry’s account, the promotions covered one Assistant Commissioner, 28 Senior Immigration Officers, 22 Immigration Officers and 21 Immigration Assistants. The message from the ceremony was that the newly elevated officers should help improve service delivery and strengthen the immigration department through more efficient and accountable work.

More broadly, such internal promotions are often used by public institutions to recognize performance and reinforce standards of conduct. In this case, the ministry framed the move not only as a reward for service, but also as an expectation that the officers will help raise the department’s operating standards going forward.
