39 moves across five countries - football's ultimate journeyman

What the report says
Zeph Thomas, a Bradford-born winger and former St Kitts & Nevis international, is being profiled by BBC Sport as he prepares to manage Dearne & District in the FA Cup for the first time. Thomas says his career has involved 39 moves across 18 years, with spells at 29 clubs in England and periods in Belgium, the United States, Canada and Scotland. His list includes multiple returns to clubs such as Rossington Main, Mickleover Sports and Frickley Athletic, reflecting a long non-league journey rather than a settled professional path.
BBC Sport reports that Thomas was released by Rotherham United in 2008 without a senior appearance, a setback that pushed him into lower-league football. He later admitted his early attitude was not ideal and said he moved clubs at times for better pay. His career also nearly ended in 2013 after a groin injury, when he briefly worked in a call centre and considered joining the army before another opportunity in Canada revived his playing days.
Now 36, Thomas is player-manager at ninth-tier Dearne & District, based in Goldthorpe near Barnsley. The club won promotion last season and will play its first-ever FA Cup tie this weekend against Runcorn Town. BBC Sport says the match is significant for the local area because the team has moved from the Doncaster Saturday League to the national competition in just a few years. Thomas also works as lead coach of Derby County’s Under-12s and is using his experience to guide younger players.
