What the report says

Dokolo Post reports that 256 Mall, a digital marketplace developed by 256 AI System, is seeking to connect Ugandan farmers directly with buyers across the country. The platform allows sellers to post agricultural products including matooke, coffee, avocados, vegetables and livestock, with deliveries described as reaching customers in all 146 districts of Uganda.

According to the company details cited by Dokolo Post, 256 Mall currently lists more than 10,000 products from over 500 verified sellers and has set a target of reaching more than 5 million Ugandans within five years. Buyers can pay through MTN MoMo and Airtel Money, mobile money services widely used in Uganda, while the platform says it verifies sellers and manages delivery logistics.

The report frames the service as a response to long-running challenges in agricultural trade, where many farmers depend on middlemen and local markets, leaving them exposed to shifting prices, limited market access and losses after harvest. By giving farmers an online sales channel, the company says producers in areas such as Mbale or Mbarara can reach customers in major and distant markets without travelling.

Dokolo Post also notes that 256 Mall sells non-agricultural goods such as electronics, fashion and beauty products, but says its farm produce listings are attracting attention, with fresh deals updated daily. More broadly, the development reflects growing interest in digital marketplaces that could help formalize parts of Uganda’s farm trade if farmers and buyers adopt them at scale.
