22 Rescued as Church Building Collapses in Entebbe

What the report says
Police in Entebbe said rescue work was continuing after part of a church building under construction collapsed at Holy City Church, also identified as Brother Ronnies Ministries, in Bwerenga, Katabi Town Council, Wakiso District. The Nile Post reported that the structure was a four-storey extension to the main church building and that the incident happened while construction was underway.
Authorities said about 22 people had been rescued so far and were taken to Entebbe Grade B Hospital for medical attention. Police spokesperson Racheal Kawala said emergency teams were still searching the site to determine whether anyone remained trapped under the rubble. At the time of the statement, officials had not confirmed the total number of injured people or whether there were additional victims.
The church is associated with Pastor Ronnie Makabai. Police also said investigations were under way to establish what caused the collapse. Building failures during construction can raise safety concerns about engineering standards, oversight and compliance with permits, although the report did not give a reason for this specific incident. The episode is significant because it involves a place of worship and a large active construction site in a populated area, where the full impact may still be unfolding.
