MacRumors reports that Apple is using iOS 27 to emphasize performance and reliability improvements across eligible iPhones, rather than only adding visible new features. According to the article by Juli Clover published July 23, 2026, Apple says the update includes more than 80 performance-related changes and supports the iPhone 11 and newer. iOS 27 is currently in beta testing for developers and public testers, with a wider release expected in the fall alongside new iPhone models.

Among the changes MacRumors highlights, Apple says apps can open up to 30% faster, based on testing with an iPhone 11 Pro Max comparing iOS 26.4.2 and iOS 27. The company also says it improved the CPU scheduler, which helps allocate processing resources, with optimizations extending back to the iPhone 11. Other day-to-day changes include smoother system animations, faster emoji and sticker keyboard loading, quicker Camera launch in Low Power Mode, and faster loading of recent photos in the Photos app and Messages photo picker.

Connectivity and communication are also part of the update. MacRumors says iOS 27 is designed to make Wi-Fi and cellular handoffs more reliable, speed up AirDrop transfers by up to 80%, and improve Bluetooth power management for accessories such as AirPods, Apple Watch, CarPlay devices and speakers. iMessage will also retry failed sends automatically, while large media transfers will no longer block text messages from continuing to send.
